July feels like the new September…
Ripe blackberries, fallen ripened apples and signs of harvest are all around and we haven’t even got to the end of July yet!
Today, I walked home through the leafy lanes to gather inspiration while I can. Before these lovely wildlife rich lanes get turned into a planned housing development and are replaced by tarmac, astroturf and plastic plants no doubt...

It was lovely to take a moment to enjoy nature while I can, in lanes I've walked since I was a child.
However, it really does feel obvious that the seasons are changing. Especially when I look in the hedgerows at this time of year and compare them to the same hedgerows that used to fascinate me as a kid playing out with my friends in the 1980s.
If you want fresh, hedgerow blackberries and sun ripened apples off the trees, the time is definitely now. Signs of harvest time has shifted to July this year.
This post also features above, my nature guide to British Hedgerow Life, which is available as a wall art print, and is definitely inspired by a child's eye view of the hedgerow lined, leafy lanes on the edge of a Somerset market town in the 1980s.
